- “The pursuit of holiness is a joint venture between God and the Christian. No one can attain any degree of holiness without God working in his life, but just as surely, no one will attain it without effort on his own part. God has made it possible for us to walk in holiness. But He has given to us the responsibility of doing the walking; He does not do that for us.” —Jerry Bridges

SCC Elders
Each elder must accept the fact that he is identified with the most spiritually mature of the church. A leader at Sterling Christian Church should examine his own personal life in light of the following scriptures.
As the men set apart as the spiritual leaders of the congregation, elders are expected to lead by example in their Spiritual Walk, Family Life, Attendance, Giving, Supporting Decisions, Participation in Ministry, Evangelism, Commitment to New Testament Christianity, Shepherding, Discipling, and as a Man of Faith and Vision.
- 1 Timothy 3:1-11
- Titus 1:6-9
- 1 Peter 5:1-4

SCC Deacons & Trustees
Each deacon at Sterling Christian Church should examine his own personal life in light of the following scriptures. It will be noted that the same high standards are set for a deacon as for an elder. The only exception is that it is not stated that the deacon must be able to teach. However, many of them did. Both Philip and Stephen were evangelists. The deacon is a Godly man who has proven his love for the church and his ability to perform.
The role of deacon in the New Testament was one of service. Note Acts 6, the first deacons were chosen to serve food to women who were arguing over who got the bigger slice of the food. They performed tasks so the Apostles would be free to teach the Word of God.
A trustee is the name given to the deacon that is charged with the care of (or the oversight of) the physical plant. They possess the same qualifications and expectations as that of a deacon, along with some legal signing powers, per government structure.
